Ultima 8: Pagan

Ultima 8 drops the Avatar into a grim, volcanic world where “fun” is defined as plummeting to your death from badly timed jumps. Yes, the infamous platforming mechanics nearly sank the whole ship. Beneath that frustration, though, lies a moody, atmospheric game with a haunting sense of isolation. Pagan is dark, dangerous, and merciless, stripping away the moral clarity of earlier titles. It may not be the most beloved in the series, but it’s certainly memorable. Just keep your quicksave handy—unless you enjoy reliving the same fall into lava again and again. Think of it as Britannia’s cruel vacation resort.
