Uplink is a computer hacking simulation game released in 2001 by Introversion Software. The game allows players to take on the role of a hacker for hire and engage in various hacking activities. In Uplink, players perform tasks such as hacking into systems, stealing data, and covering their tracks. The game features a realistic representation of hacking, including bypassing security systems, breaking into servers, and dealing with trace detection mechanisms.
Computer Gaming World (2003): "It takes a while to actually get into tile somewhat convoluted conspiracy story in Uplink, and the gameplay eventually becomes repetitive, but for a while, it’s a breath of fresh air in a gaming world with stilted ideas."
Retro gamer collector's corner:
A version released in the US was published and distributed by Strategy First under the title Uplink: Hacker Elite.
Not only was the sim unlike anything else, it's still available in 2019 via Steam, though having enjoyed Uplink now I'm staying up way too late with its 2020 modern cousin Nite Team 4. Hyper realistic hacking sim with clear Uplink lineage, and the commands are real. Tutorials are excellent. Steam Community and YouTube play-throughs available.
