Vixen

Vixen is an action game built around a rather unusual combination of fantasy, combat, and transformation. The player takes control of a heroine capable of using magical abilities while battling enemies across scrolling environments. The game clearly belongs to the late-1980s tradition of action adventures, where quick reflexes and careful movement are essential and enemies have an impressive talent for appearing exactly where you would rather they did not. The transformation mechanics give the gameplay an extra twist, allowing the heroine to adopt different forms and use their abilities to overcome obstacles. The graphics are colorful and distinctly period-specific, while the soundtrack and sound effects add to the arcade atmosphere. It can be unforgiving, but that was practically a job requirement for action games of the time. Beneath the dated presentation is a lively little adventure with enough personality to stand apart from the crowd.
