The Oregon Trail is an educational adventure series that began on PC in 1971 and became a classroom staple for decades. Players guide a wagon party of pioneers traveling westward in 19th-century America, managing supplies, hunting, and surviving hardships like disease, river crossings, and broken wheels.

Its blend of resource management and random events made it both fun and brutally unforgiving—“You have died of dysentery” became a cultural catchphrase. Later versions added updated graphics, minigames, and historical detail, while still teaching survival and history. Endlessly replayable, The Oregon Trail remains one of the most iconic educational games ever created.
