Rogue: the first roguelike

rogue-1.jpg

If you're into roguelikes, you already know what Rogue is. One of the first RPGs in video game history, Rogue is a text-based dungeon crawler where you must battle your way through the depths to recover the Amulet of Yendor. It gained popularity around 1980 on mainframes and was later ported to various platforms, including DOS in 1984. Simply put, Rogue is the father of all roguelike games that followed. If you're unfamiliar with the term roguelike, it's an RPG where you die a lot. But each time you restart, the world is completely different, thanks to procedural generation.
