Released in 1982, Deadline is one of Infocom’s classic text adventures, and it doesn’t pull punches. You’re a detective with twelve in-game hours to solve a murder, and time moves whether you’re ready or not. The suspects have their own routines, conversations happen without you, and if you miss a clue—too bad. It’s unforgiving, cerebral, and gloriously old-school. There are no graphics, just words, but the writing is sharp enough to make you feel the tension of the investigation. It’s less “casual gaming” and more “put on your thinking cap and interrogate everyone.” Perfect for mystery lovers with patience.
