Subtlety is not in Fire and Forget’s vocabulary. You drive. You shoot. Things explode. That’s the pitch, and the game sticks to it with admirable stubbornness. Released in the late 80s, it blends driving and shooting in a way that feels both ambitious and slightly unhinged. The controls can be twitchy, and the difficulty doesn’t believe in mercy, but when it clicks, it’s a thrill. There’s a raw, arcade-like intensity to the experience, as if every mission is fueled by caffeine and questionable decisions. It may not age gracefully, but it certainly refuses to age quietly.
