If Clouds of Xeen was the sunny side of the adventure, Might and Magic 5: Darkside of Xeen gleefully flips the map over and shows you the other half. The tone is a bit darker, the enemies meaner, and the sense of scale even grander. Exploring the land feels like rummaging through a wizard’s attic: every corner hides something unexpected, whether it’s treasure, a cryptic puzzle, or a monster that immediately makes you regret your life choices. On its own it’s already a substantial RPG, but the real magic happens when it joins forces with its predecessor to form the legendary World of Xeen. Even before that moment, though, it’s a wonderfully dense adventure where persistence is rewarded and curiosity occasionally leads to both riches and spectacular disaster.
