Ogre is a 1986 strategy game based on the classic science-fiction board game concept of a gigantic automated tank facing conventional military forces. The premise is wonderfully simple and wonderfully unfair: one enormous machine possesses terrifying firepower, while its opponents must rely on tactics, positioning, and whatever optimism they have left. Players must think carefully about movement and combat, using available forces efficiently to deal with an enemy that is extremely good at making things explode. Ogre offers a compact but engaging strategic experience, where every decision matters and the battlefield can change rapidly. The title may sound like a fantasy creature, but the real monster is a massive futuristic tank. It is essentially a military puzzle in which the player is asked to defeat something that appears to have been designed specifically to make that task extremely unpleasant.
