Play SimAnt: The Electronic Ant Colony online

SimAnt: The Electronic Ant Colony is a wonderfully eccentric 1991 simulation that lets players experience life from the perspective of an ant. Rather than building cities or managing businesses, you control a colony, explore the environment, gather food, reproduce, defend the nest, and interact with other creatures. The game turns an ordinary garden into a surprisingly complex miniature ecosystem, complete with rival ants, spiders, people, and environmental hazards. Success depends on understanding how the colony works rather than controlling a single heroic character. There is something strangely satisfying about organizing hundreds of tiny insects and watching them behave collectively, especially when your carefully developed colony suddenly encounters an enormous boot. SimAnt is one of Maxis's most unusual simulations because it takes a subject nobody asked for and somehow makes it fascinating. It also teaches an important lesson: being an ant is mostly hard work, danger, and hoping the humans stay indoors.

How to play SimAnt: The Electronic Ant Colony

Game modes: single-player

Your goal is to ensure the survival and expansion of your black ant colony, ultimately taking over the human household.

Tips for Playing SimAnt

Focus on Food Early: Gather plenty of food to grow your colony quickly. Assign some ants to focus exclusively on foraging.

Balance Worker and Soldier Roles: Workers are essential for food collection and tunnel digging, while soldiers are crucial for defense.

Use Pheromone Trails: Lay trails to guide other ants to key areas. Use the "Food," "Danger," and "Nest" signals strategically.

Prioritize the Queen's Safety: Keep the queen deep within the nest and well-protected. Losing her means losing the colony.

Target Red Ant Queens: Destroying a red ant queen will cripple their colony and help you take over territory faster.

Prepare for Hazards: Anticipate hazards like spiders, floods, and human actions. Move the colony to safer areas if needed.

Plan Expansions: Don't spread too thin. Consolidate control over each patch before moving to the next one.

Winged Ant Strategy: Winged ants are essential for starting new colonies. Send them to unoccupied patches for expansion.

Observe Human Behavior: Watch the human in the house. Their actions, such as eating or spilling food, can provide opportunities for your colony.
