Tristan Pinball is a digital pinball table from an era when computer hardware was expected to imitate a real arcade machine despite having considerably fewer pixels and absolutely no physical ball. The game focuses on the essentials: launch the ball, hit targets, trigger bonuses, and try to keep the thing in play for as long as humanly possible. Its table design has plenty of ramps, bumpers, lights, and other distractions designed to make you think you have a strategy when you are mostly reacting to gravity. The physics may look primitive by modern standards, but the game captures the basic rhythm of pinball surprisingly well. There is also something wonderfully addictive about chasing a higher score after a particularly satisfying sequence of hits. Tristan Pinball is therefore best approached with the correct mindset: sit down for five minutes, play one more game, and suddenly discover that an hour has disappeared.
