Ultima 7 is often hailed as the crown jewel of the series, and with good reason. It throws you into an open world that feels startlingly alive, even decades later. Townsfolk go about their daily routines, you can bake bread if you feel like it, and there’s a murder mystery waiting to unfold. At the center of it all lurks the Guardian, a booming red menace who really enjoys talking directly to you. It’s immersive, occasionally maddening, and loaded with detail. If you’ve ever wanted to role-play as both a heroic Avatar and a part-time baker, this is your playground.
