Vaxine is a first-person shooter with a wonderfully strange premise: you are flying through the interior of a human body, blasting viruses and other microscopic nasties before they can cause trouble. It sounds like a biology lesson written by someone who had just discovered arcade games, and that is precisely why it is memorable. The action takes place inside maze-like environments, where enemies appear from different directions and survival depends on movement, aiming, and keeping track of your surroundings. The futuristic presentation gives the game a distinctly early-1990s science-fiction flavour, while the biological setting makes every corridor feel slightly more unsettling than a conventional space station. The controls and visuals are simple, but the concept carries a surprising amount of personality. Vaxine is not the deepest shooter around, yet it offers something genuinely unusual. Where else can you spend an evening defending your bloodstream with a futuristic weapon while wondering whether your doctor would approve?
