World Games is a collection of unusual sporting events designed to prove that the Olympics did not have a monopoly on strange ways of hurting yourself. Instead of concentrating on familiar athletics, the game offers a selection of international events that can include activities such as weightlifting, diving, log rolling and other wonderfully eccentric competitions. Each event has its own controls and timing challenges, so learning one does not necessarily prepare you for the next. That variety is the real attraction. Some events are easy to pick up, while others demand practice before your digital athlete stops looking completely incompetent. The result is an entertaining snapshot of 1980s computer sports, full of personality and the sort of wonderfully odd ideas that modern sports games rarely dare to attempt.
