Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire takes the Ultima formula somewhere considerably less medieval, sending the player into a lost jungle world filled with dinosaurs, strange cultures and enough danger to make a relaxing holiday seem like a terrible idea. It retains the series' role-playing foundations, including exploration, dialogue, combat and character development, while replacing castles and knights with prehistoric creatures and exotic environments. The setting is easily the star of the show. Ancient civilizations and dinosaur-filled wilderness give the adventure a distinctive identity, while the familiar Ultima mechanics provide plenty of depth. It is an unusual spin-off that demonstrates how flexible the Ultima framework could be. If you have ever wondered whether fantasy RPGs would work better with dinosaurs, this game is remarkably committed to answering the question.
