Oxyd is a 1992 puzzle game built around a deceptively simple concept: move objects, solve problems, and somehow avoid making the situation much more complicated than it needs to be. Players guide a ball through a series of increasingly challenging environments, interacting with objects and solving puzzles that require observation, timing, and a willingness to experiment. The game has a clean, abstract style that allows the puzzles themselves to take center stage. What begins as a simple challenge can quickly become a surprisingly intricate test of logic and patience. Oxyd is the kind of game where the solution may seem obvious immediately after discovering it, which is convenient because the previous twenty minutes were spent trying absolutely everything else. Elegant, clever, and occasionally infuriating, it proves that a small ball can create a remarkably large amount of head-scratching.
