Released in 1987, Laser Surgeon: The Microscopic Mission offers one of gaming's more unusual premises by shrinking players down for a medical adventure inside the human body. Instead of slaying dragons or invading planets, you battle microscopic threats while navigating biological environments that are both educational and entertaining. The concept gives the game a unique personality, combining action with a surprising amount of scientific inspiration. It is certainly not the kind of operating room most doctors would recognize, but that imaginative approach is part of its appeal. Few DOS titles dared to make biology this adventurous, or this unexpectedly fun.
