Sleuth: A Murder Mystery is a 1983 detective game that puts the player in the role of an investigator trying to solve a murder through deduction and careful examination of evidence. Rather than relying on action, the game focuses on questioning suspects, gathering clues, identifying contradictions, and gradually constructing a theory of what happened. The limited presentation leaves much of the detective work to the player's imagination, which is appropriate for a mystery game. Every character might know something useful, although not necessarily something they are willing to tell you. Sleuth is a fascinating example of early computer games using simple mechanics to create a surprisingly sophisticated intellectual challenge. It rewards note-taking, observation, and logical thinking rather than quick reflexes. The graphics may be minimal, but the central question remains timeless: who did it? Naturally, accusing the wrong person is considerably easier than solving the case correctly.
