Space Hulk is a 1993 tactical game based on the Warhammer 40,000 board game, placing squads of Space Marines inside enormous abandoned spacecraft known as hulks. These dark corridors are filled with Genestealers, terrifying alien creatures that move quickly and are extremely good at turning a confident plan into a desperate retreat. Players must carefully position their squads, manage weapons, monitor ammunition, and make decisions under pressure. The enclosed environments create a claustrophobic atmosphere, since enemies can emerge from seemingly safe corridors with alarming speed. Space Hulk combines strategy and horror particularly well, making every movement feel important. The grim science-fiction setting is suitably excessive, with giant armored soldiers carrying enormous weapons through spaceships that are apparently designed specifically to be unpleasant. It is tactical gaming at its most tense: watch the corridors, conserve ammunition, and try not to discover that the sound behind you is coming from something very large and very hungry.
