By 1992, Dragon’s Lair 3: The Curse of Mordread continued Dirk’s tradition of “failing spectacularly until you don’t.” Once again, you guide the world’s most inept knight through danger after danger, this time under the shadow of the villainous Mordread. The animation? Downgraded. The humor? Still intact. The game is brutally unforgiving, but fans of slapstick fantasy found it irresistible. It’s basically a medieval blooper reel disguised as a video game. If you can stomach the repetition, there’s joy in finally watching Dirk stumble into victory. If not, at least the deaths are entertaining.
