X-COM: Apocalypse takes the familiar alien invasion formula and tosses it into a sprawling futuristic city, where things feel both more chaotic and oddly more personal. Instead of defending the globe, you are juggling politics, corporations, and alien infiltration in a single urban sandbox. The real-time mode adds a frantic edge, while the classic turn-based option keeps purists happy. It is messy, ambitious, and occasionally feels like it is arguing with itself about what kind of game it wants to be, but that is part of its charm. Few strategy games let you shoot down UFOs and accidentally bankrupt yourself in the same afternoon.
