Time Slaughter is a fighting game that embraces the wonderfully excessive attitude of 1990s arcade combat. Its roster of bizarre characters is more interested in beating each other senseless than discussing their differences over a cup of tea, and the matches revolve around attacks, timing and learning each fighter's abilities. The game has a deliberately outrageous presentation, with strange combatants and exaggerated violence giving it a personality of its own. It may not have the polish of the biggest fighting franchises, but that almost makes it more entertaining as a curiosity. Time Slaughter belongs to the era when developers were happy to throw increasingly ridiculous characters into an arena and see what happened. The result is rough around the edges but memorable, especially for players who enjoy obscure fighting games. Sometimes you do not need balance, subtle storytelling or sensible character design; you just need two lunatics and a health bar.
