Beam Software was founded by Alfred Milgrom and Naomi Besen. Initially, it was involved in creating educational software but later transitioned into video game development.

In 1999, Beam Software was acquired by Infogrames, a French video game company. Following this acquisition, Beam Software was renamed to Infogrames Melbourne House Pty Ltd. Later, in 2006, it became known as Atari Melbourne House. After several years of operation under various names, the studio was eventually closed down in 2010.
