Game company profile: Accolade
Accolade was a video game company known for developing and publishing games primarily in the 1980s and 1990s. It was founded in 1984 by Alan Miller and Bob Whitehead, former employees of Activision.
Accolade was known for developing unlicensed games for platforms like the NES, which led to legal disputes with Nintendo. This included a lawsuit over reverse engineering the NES to make games without official licensing, a case they eventually won, enabling other third-party developers to create games for the NES.
In 1999, Accolade was acquired by French video game company Infogrames (later Atari SA). The Accolade brand was retired shortly after the acquisition.
