Game company profile: Broderbund
Broderbund Software was a prominent American video game and software development company founded in 1980 by Doug and Gary Carlston. Initially focusing on educational software for the Apple II platform, Broderbund later expanded into gaming, becoming known for its innovative and high-quality titles across various genres.
Broderbund's success extended beyond gaming and educational software. The company also published productivity software like the Calendar Creator and Kid Pix, as well as popular creativity tools like Carmen Sandiego's ThinkQuick Challenge and Myst, the latter being developed by Cyan Worlds.
In 1998, Broderbund was acquired by The Learning Company (TLC), a move that eventually led to its dissolution as a separate entity. Many of Broderbund's classic games and software titles remain influential and fondly remembered by gamers and computer users alike, leaving a lasting legacy in the history of video games and software development.
