With a name like Genocide (1996), you know you’re not in for a lighthearted romp. This DOS platformer is dark, moody, and filled with enemies that seem genetically engineered to ruin your day. You play a lone warrior slicing through waves of grotesque monsters, armed with more grit than sense. The graphics are sharp for the era, the soundtrack heavy enough to make your speakers rattle, and the gameplay… unforgiving. It’s the kind of game that makes you sweat after the first level, but if you like a good challenge, this one doesn’t pull its punches.
