Golden Axe

Sega developed the DOS fantasy action game Golden Axe in 1991. Golden Axe is currently abandonware, runs on DOS and can be played in a side view perspective in single player, multiplayer (same or split screen) modes. Golden Axe is a conversion from an arcade coin-op machine. It's available for download.

The death screams of the bad guys are digitized from screams used in the films First Blood and Conan The Barbarian.

Lead producer Makoto Uchida was fond of action movies, particularly the Conan films and wanted to create a game influenced by them.
