Liero

By 1999, Liero had become a cult favorite thanks to its frantic real-time battles between heavily armed worms. Unlike turn-based competitors, the action never pauses, creating chaotic firefights where rockets, lasers, and outrageous weapons fill the screen within seconds. Every match becomes a hilarious contest of reflexes and improvisation as players tunnel through destructible terrain in pursuit of victory. The enormous weapon variety guarantees that no two battles unfold exactly alike. It is difficult to maintain dignity while being launched across the map by an exploding banana, yet Liero somehow makes that perfectly acceptable.
