Myst

Myst is a classic puzzle-adventure video game that was first released in 1993. It was developed by Cyan, a small independent game development studio. The game was initially released for the Macintosh platform and later ported to other systems, including Windows, PlayStation, and more.
Myst is a first-person point-and-click adventure game. Players explore a visually stunning 3D environment, solving puzzles and uncovering the game's narrative. The game's story revolves around a mysterious island called Myst. Players find themselves on this island without any clear explanation and must explore the various locations to discover the secrets of the island and the people associated with it.

Myst reviews

PC Review (1994): "Myst is so fresh and original that even the most jaded adventure hack will be enchanted by it. It i visually, aurally and mentally stimulating - the first CD game I've played which scores highly in all the categories. All I can say is, "At last!""

Macworld (1998): "Less like computer games than like wonderfully illustrated novels, both Myst and Riven transport you to a world where deciphering where you are–and why you're there–is all part of the fun. While both games lead you toward a final goal, the true point of Myst and Riven is to explore the gorgeously rendered worlds and the characters that live in them. We heartily recommend both Myst and Riven to gamers and nongamers alike"

Retro gamer collector's corner:

Myst: Masterpiece Edition was an updated version of the original Myst, released in May 2000. It featured several improvements over the original game, with the images re-rendered in 24-bit truecolor instead of the original Myst's 8-bit color. The score was re-mastered and sound effects were enhanced.

@John, you're partially right. But you have to keep in mind that the rights for Myst belong to Cyan Worlds which is the company that made the original Myst.

Incorrectly labelled as 'not abandonware'. The original version is NOT available for purchase anywhere, and I'm not sure why you'd want to play a remastered over the superior original.
