I currently use Skale quite a bit even though it's near 20 years old, It's picky with Synths not as picky with FX but I have a long list that work well... It can load Akai or SF2 instruments but sounds terrible using the soundfonts, Sounds wonderful with Akai instruments though & I make my own that have every semitone sampled so large up to 100 MB for a single instrument uses them fine... Has a very nice mixer also the track editor is great as you can draw in FX curves with mouse no needing to use pattern commands... Has chord mode using zero step creates chord but adding a step to 1 creates an arpeggio which is very cool... MIDI 'in' works great with any of my keyboards... Personally I have made over 10 GB of Akai instruments for Skale sounds as good as renoise for sure... I have a running thread over at the SunVox forum in the 'Other Music Software' area where I share what plugs work & also Akai instruments I have made & tips for use...

Yes, I used to play around with Skale Tracker under Windows ME. It worked with some minor issues. VSTi didn't work very well (in my modest machine) so I swichted to Psycle Tracker.
