Superhero League of Hoboken

Superhero League of Hoboken is a wonderfully odd role-playing adventure that imagines a superhero team defending the world from threats while operating out of Hoboken. The humor is central to the experience, with deliberately ridiculous characters, satirical situations, and a setting that treats superhero conventions with a raised eyebrow. Instead of assembling a team of impossibly perfect heroes, you recruit a collection of eccentric personalities whose abilities can be useful in surprisingly specific circumstances. Exploration, combat, dialogue, and problem-solving all contribute to the adventure, while the writing keeps things entertaining even when the stakes become serious. The game has a distinctly comic-book flavor, but it is far more interested in making fun of superhero clichés than simply copying them. Superhero League of Hoboken is therefore a particularly charming RPG for players who enjoy humor alongside their statistics and inventory screens. Saving the world is important, certainly, but apparently it can be done while living in Hoboken and employing a superhero whose résumé would make Batman nervous.
