Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption is a dark action RPG that combines gothic horror, character development, and a surprisingly complicated vampire social life. You play Christof Romuald, a medieval knight who becomes a vampire and finds himself pulled into a long-running struggle involving clans, conspiracies, religion, and creatures that are considerably less friendly than ordinary medieval peasants. The story moves between historical Prague and a later modern setting, giving the adventure a broader scope than its opening chapters might suggest. Combat is real-time, while character progression allows you to develop supernatural abilities, weapons, and different approaches to dealing with enemies. The atmosphere is easily one of its strongest features, with gloomy environments, dramatic dialogue, and plenty of ominous gothic imagery. Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption can occasionally be awkward and melodramatic, but that is part of its charm. It captures the tabletop game's fascination with power, morality, and undead politics remarkably well.
Computer Games Magazine (2000): "So is Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption a Renaissance for computer RPGs? The solo game probably isn't. While entertaining enough, it's little more than a hack-and-slash adventure with a unique premise. The multiplayer game is plenty innovative, however, and with luck it may forge a future path for computer role-playing games to explore."
