The name Carmen Sandiego, was adapted from the name of nineteen-forties singer and actress Carmen Miranda.

University Games published a series of games based on Carmen Sandiego including Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, and Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego. It was one of the most successful board game licenses of a computer property ever developed.
