She sought the Devil's protection in a pagan cult of devil worshipers. Through demonic rites, Margaret became a powerful sorceress, her strength growing with each year. Then the Bloody Judge set off a vicious wave of executions for profit and pleasure. Margaret was condemned to burn. From within the flames, she cast a dreadful curse upon the land. Then she appeared to her daughter, Alucarda. "Avenge me, Alucarda! Avenge my death!" You are Alucarda. You begin the game on a quest of vengeance, which may change. You begin with no witchcraft abilities, so you must gain them. Page 2 Starting the Game To start the game, you need at least 500K of conventional memory, a VGA moniter and card, and a Microsoft-compatible mouse. A 386+ computer is highly recommended. Cast Spell ͼ Attacking If you have a weapon, the mouse will look like a sword, if not it will look like a fist. Fighting without a weapon is not wise. While the mouse looks like a sword or a fist, press anywhere on the enemy to attack. Your skill and your current weapon determine if you will hit the enemy and how much damage it will do. Defending After you attack, you must wait a while before you can strike again. This is your chance to defend yourself. While the mouse looks like a shield, press the mouse button anywhere on the enemy viewscreen to defend. Defending lowers the chance of getting hit or the amount of damage done by it. Casting Spells To cast a spell in combat, press the potion bowl. The action will stop while you choose your spell. Some spells cannot be cast in combat, so you would receive a message before casting. After you defeat an enemy, your fighting and defense skills will increase. Score The score shows you how far along in the game you are. Some encounters or actions give you points, but are not needed to win the game. The maximum score is 500. If you finish the game with a score of less than 500, you missed out on some things.
