The Colony is a first-person science-fiction adventure that combines exploration, combat, puzzles, and a surprisingly lonely atmosphere. Set on an alien world, it gives the player plenty of room to investigate strange environments while trying to understand what happened and, naturally, attempting not to become the next unexplained corpse. The game's early use of a three-dimensional perspective was impressive for its time, even if modern players may need a moment to adjust to the graphics and interface. Much of the enjoyment comes from the sense of discovery: there is something intriguing about moving through an unfamiliar world without having every objective politely highlighted. The pace can be deliberate, but that works in its favor, creating an atmosphere closer to old science-fiction novels than modern action games. It is rough around the edges, yet undeniably ambitious.
