Transport Tycoon is one of the great classic transportation management games, turning the seemingly simple task of moving things from A to B into an obsession with timetables, routes, profits, and infrastructure. Players build roads, railways, shipping lines, and air routes while competing with rival companies and attempting to grow a tiny operation into a transportation empire. The joy comes from watching a network develop: a profitable railway encourages expansion, expansion creates congestion, and congestion inspires yet another railway. Before long, you are spending far too much time worrying about the precise location of a bus stop. The economic system rewards sensible planning, while the variety of vehicles keeps the world lively. Transport Tycoon remains remarkably addictive because every successful connection feels like a small victory. It is also proof that spreadsheets can become exciting when you attach locomotives to them.
