Side Arms Hyper Dyne is a 1988 DOS shoot-'em-up adapted from Capcom's arcade game, putting players into a futuristic combat suit and sending them directly into a hostile alien battlefield. The action is fast, straightforward, and unapologetically focused on shooting anything that moves. Players can move freely, collect power-ups, switch weapons, and deal with increasingly dangerous enemies and bosses. The game's arcade origins are obvious: the emphasis is on reflexes, memorizing enemy patterns, and surviving just a little longer each time. There is little time for sightseeing, although the alien landscapes are certainly busy enough to look impressive while you are being attacked. Side Arms Hyper Dyne is classic late-1980s arcade design distilled into a home-computer experience. It does not ask complicated philosophical questions. It asks whether you can dodge that projectile. Usually, the answer is “not this time.”
