Questprobe featuring Human Torch and The Thing is a 1985 adventure game that brings two very different Marvel heroes together for a challenge involving exploration, puzzles, and super-powered problem solving. Human Torch can literally set himself on fire, while The Thing possesses extraordinary strength, which means the game has access to two fairly convincing solutions to most everyday problems. Unfortunately, the challenges are not always solved by simply burning or smashing everything, so players must think carefully about how to use the characters’ abilities. The game captures the comic-book atmosphere of its era, offering a colorful adventure built around familiar heroes. Questprobe is an interesting snapshot of early superhero gaming, when developers were still figuring out how to translate comic-book powers into interactive puzzles. At least one problem is probably solved by hitting it very hard.
