The Incredible Toon Machine brings the familiar contraption-building formula into a world populated by cartoon characters and considerably less respect for the laws of physics. As in the earlier Incredible Machine games, the task is to arrange objects in the correct order so that a chain reaction eventually accomplishes a goal. The difference is largely in the personality: everything looks like it escaped from a Saturday morning cartoon, and the machines have an appropriately silly sense of timing. You might spend several minutes constructing an ingenious mechanism only to discover that one tiny object was facing the wrong direction. That sort of failure is practically encouraged. The puzzles range from straightforward to wonderfully devious, making experimentation essential. It is an approachable game with enough depth to keep clever players busy, and its cartoon atmosphere gives every successful contraption an extra dose of charm.
