Metal Gear introduces the legendary Solid Snake to computer players in a stealth adventure built around infiltration rather than brute force. Sneaking past guards, gathering intelligence, finding equipment, and sabotaging enemy operations create a tense experience where being noticed is usually a terrible career decision. The game established many of the ideas that would later define the series, including clever gadgets, memorable characters, and a story packed with military conspiracies. It can occasionally be quirky by modern standards, but its central concept remains timeless: sometimes the best way to defeat an enemy is simply not to be there.
